Review of relevant knowledge points about fastener assemblies

In order to solve the problem of anti-loosening of fasteners, bolts and nuts are used in combination with washers. At the same time, there are many types of variant products of nuts to solve the problems of assembly, anti-loosening and appearance.


Combination bolts or combination nuts are also a type of bolts and nuts, but they are generally three-assembly components or combination components. Because the flat washers and spring washers of the assembly are pre-installed on the bolts or nuts, it saves the time of manually assembling the flat washers and spring washers on the final assembly production line, and improves the assembly efficiency of production lines that use a lot of fasteners. Non-metallic insert lock nuts, cap nuts with caps and spring leaf nuts are also threaded assemblies, and different process technologies are used to produce them in factories.

1. Bolt and screw combination

The production process of combined screws is to cold-bolt the bolts first, then put the washers on manually or with an automatic washer threading machine according to the production quantity, and then rub the teeth. Compared with the manufacturing of ordinary screws, there is one more production process, and one more process for threading spring washers and flat washers.

The automatic pad threading machine has three disks, one for screws, one for flat pads, and one for elastic pads. Automatically thread the spring washers and flat washers, and then automatically roll the thread.


2. List of types and standards of combined cap nuts

The cap nut is a commonly used standard part. There is a cap on the nut. The function of the cap is to cover the exposed part outside the fastening part to prevent moisture or corrosion from entering the interior to prevent rust. Or use For fastening occasions where beautiful appearance is required, such as wheel nuts on cars.

The production process of cap nuts is divided into two types. One is a one-piece whole that can be cold formed. Products with large specifications and low output can be red punched and then cut.

One is a combined type, the nut body and cap are separate structures, and the two are connected through different connection methods. When using a split structure, the nut body can use an existing standard nut. During processing, you only need to connect the cap of the cold pier to the nut. This structure reduces the difficulty of manufacturing. There are many process methods for combined connection, and there are also many patented products.

a. The nut body and cap can be connected by riveting and deformation, but the sealing performance is poor, there is a certain gap, and leakage is easy to occur at the connection.

b. The most commonly used method for connecting the nut body and cap is welding, of which butt welding (i.e. butt welding) is a type of resistance welding. The connecting end of the nut and cap is heated to a plastic or molten state by passing electric current, and a permanent connection is formed under the action of axial pressure.

3. Nuts with built-in washers

The commonly used combination locking method of the nut body and the washer is to leave a small step on the nut, put the washer on and rivet them together with a press. Completed by automatic production line.

Combination locking of non-metallic insert locking nuts

Reference standards GB/T6182 and GB/T6183.

The non-metal insert Lock Nut is a nylon block or a nylon ring whose inner diameter is slightly smaller than the thread pitch diameter embedded in the threaded hole. When the bolt is screwed in, the internal thread is squeezed out of the nylon ring. The extremely elastic nylon material forms a large and stable friction force with the bolt, thereby preventing the fastener from loosening and achieving reliable locking.


The combined locking of non-metal insert lock nuts is mainly completed by an automatic production line; the processed nut body and nylon ring are placed in two vibrating plates respectively, and transported to the press by a conveyor belt for automatic assembly, and then riveted and sealed, and the combined nut is assembled It's assembled.

5. Shrapnel type lock nut

When the bolt is screwed in, the spring washer deforms close to the bolt, forming friction, thereby preventing the fastener from loosening and achieving locking purposes.

The combined locking of spring-type anti-loosening nuts and non-metallic insert lock nuts is similar. The spring pieces and nuts are combined with a press to flange and rivet them.

6. Cage nut

The cage nut can be moved and adjusted within a certain radial range to compensate for the radial tolerance between the connected parts. The nut is housed in a stamped and bent cage.
